About Dr Vicky
Hi, I’m Dr. Vicky Markham, and I’ve recently moved to Adelaide from Hervey Bay, Queensland, after Cyclone Alfred caused severe flooding to both my workplace and home.
I’m originally from New Zealand and a proud graduate of the New Zealand College of Chiropractic.
In 2023, my partner and I relocated to Australia.
I’m passionate about helping people of all ages find relief and improve their overall well-being and function.
I’ve worked with individuals experiencing back and neck pain, headaches and migraines, scoliosis, disc bulges, sciatica, arthritis, and more.
My approach to care is thorough and tailored to each patient. I begin with a detailed health history and assessment, including posture screenings and, if needed, X-rays or further diagnostic tests to get to the root of the problem.
My treatments focus on gentle spinal adjustments aimed at relieving pain and improving movement and overall function.
I believe everyone deserves to live pain-free and move with ease, and I’d love to help you on your journey to better health.
In my spare time, I enjoy exploring my surroundings—usually with a camera in hand.
I also love camping and hope to get back into playing soccer and swimming.
I value catching up with friends and family, even if it’s just over a video call.

What inspired you to become a Chiropractor?
When I was 12 years old, I sneezed and hurt my neck, tried everything but after months of discomfort a friends referred me to a chiropractor. After the first visit I felt worlds better. It was in that moment I knew chiropractic was something special. I’d always said I wanted to do something that would help people, and chiropractic is just that!
What’s a common condition you treat, and how can Chiropractic help?
Lower back pain/ disc/ sciatica. - it’s really common to see people come in with lower back pain, whether that is from office work, poor posture, a gym workout, or even putting on socks. Chiropractic works with your spine and nervous system and when there’s extra tension on our body the smallest things like bending forward to put your socks on can cause the nervous system to go into protective mode. This can then result in symptoms like pain and more movement. Chiropractic care aims at building support and resilience back into the spine and nervous system so that we can do smaller or even bigger tasks without sending us into protective mode.
Do you have any tips for maintaining spinal health at home or at work?
Walking!!! Lower force exercise is great for our joints. Not only is it good for our physical body but also our mental health, especially if it’s outdoors.
How is Chiropractic Care tailored during pregnancy or postpartum?
Chiropractic can be tailored to all people, especially expecting or new mums. The body is going through so much change and helping to support the body in this change is where chiropractic can come in. Chiropractic care is safe at all stages, and we can adapt our sessions as the weeks pass. In our office the part of the table where your growing tummy would go can drop away so that you’re not lying flat on your stomach. We also have special pillows designed with a cut out for placement of the tummy too. We can also change the way we adjust you, using lower force techniques, adjusted you seated and work on the stomach and uterine ligaments. We are always happy to have a conversation around what makes you feel most comfortable.
What’s something people are often surprised to learn about Chiropractic Care?
That it’s not always about the cracking sound!! A chiropractic adjustment is a specific and fast force applied to an area of the spine that’s got neurological and motion disfunction. When the correct force/adjustment is applied it creates neurological change not only in that area of the spine but also in our brains! This in return helps the body and brain have a better understanding of what’s happing, thus decreasing pain, increasing movement and overall function. That is what an adjustment is. The sound is the gases in the joint releasing due to tension within the joint. This is why using an activator is still as if not more effective for adjustments, it’s programmed to always fire at the prefect speed.
What do you enjoy most about working at Chiropractic on Winston?
Getting to know the amazing community within this area! And also learning which footy team to support... or not support.
What’s your favourite part of being a Chiropractor?
Helping those that feel like they’ve tried everything with no to little success. Then getting to see them become them again, enjoy life and function better!
What’s one piece of advice you find yourself giving all the time?
Drink water!! Hydration is important for our discs between our spines! They are made up of fluid and when we’re dehydrated, they are dehydrated! This is especially important if were got a disc herniation or degeneration.
Do you have a favourite area of the body to treat—or a condition you love helping with?
The jaw also known as TMJ. I often find people that have chronic migraines, vertigo, popping/ clicking and even lower back pain benefit from a TMJ release.
What’s your go-to way to unwind after a busy day in the clinic?
Fluffy paints, dinner with my partner, followed by the tv show we’re binge watching.
If you weren’t a Chiropractor, what do you think you’d be doing?
Possibly a midwife or a social worker
What’s one thing you wish more people knew about Chiropractic Care?
That you don’t have to be in pain to get adjusted. There’s so much more to chiropractic care than just pain. We have two nervous systems (sympathetic and parasympathetic) and we all live sadly in sympathetic, known as fight or flight, but regular adjustments can help our entire back into parasympathetic (rest and digest), then helping with sleep, digestion, menstruation, fertility and so much more.
What’s the most exciting part of your career that’s happened so far?
Moving to Adelaide.
What’s your go-to lunch on a busy clinic day?
Something with pasta! Chicken pesto pasta maybe.
What’s something on your bucket list?
Road trip around Australia.
What’s your favourite way to move your body outside of work?
Walking!! Whether that’s on the beach or in the hills.
Do you have a hidden talent or fun fact most people don’t know about you?
I love photography! My camera goes on day trips and camping weekends with me no matter what!

FAQ's - Frequently Asked Questions By Vicky
Can chiropractic care help with both back and neck pain?
Yes. Chiropractic care focuses on improving spinal alignment, joint mobility, and nerve function, which can relieve pressure, inflammation, and stiffness in the back and neck. Many patients find significant relief through manual adjustments, soft tissue therapy, and postural correction strategies.
How can a chiropractor help with headaches or migraines?
Tension headaches and migraines are often linked to neck dysfunction, poor posture, or nerve irritation. Chiropractors assess spinal alignment, muscle tension, and joint restrictions, especially in the upper neck, and use targeted adjustments or soft tissue techniques to reduce headache frequency and intensity.
Is chiropractic care safe and effective for children or teens with scoliosis?
Yes. While chiropractors do not "cure" scoliosis, they can help manage symptoms, improve spinal mobility, and reduce discomfort associated with curvature. For younger patients, early detection and gentle, age-appropriate treatment can be an important part of a long-term management plan.
What is the difference between a disc bulge and sciatica, and how does chiropractic help?
A disc bulge occurs when the outer layer of a spinal disc weakens, often pressing on nearby nerves. Sciatica refers to pain that travels down the leg due to pressure on the sciatic nerve—often caused by a bulging disc. Chiropractors use techniques to reduce nerve pressure, improve movement, and support disc healing.
Can chiropractic care help with arthritis-related pain or stiffness?
Yes. While chiropractic care does not reverse arthritis, it can help manage symptoms. Gentle adjustments, mobilisations, and soft tissue therapy can reduce joint stiffness, improve mobility, and decrease pain levels—especially in areas like the spine, hips, or knees.
